The St. George suit was developed by Paul Becker between 2018 and 2021, drawing on his 25 years of experience as a historical fencer and fencing instructor. It was designed to provide real protection for historical fencing fencers. Fellow fencing instructors were also involved in the development process to provide their feedback. Paul collaborated with the renowned manufacturer Uhlmann Fechtsport, which manufactures these products in Germany according to the highest standards and with its many years of expertise.
The St. George fencing uniform combines the high protection of the FIE (Federation Internationale d'Escrime) safety standards with the demands of historical fencers for mobility and comfort.
The St. George fencing uniform has been tried and tested for over four years in competitions from sabre fencing to long sword fencing and enjoys great popularity.
The suit's 800N stab resistance is tested and certified according to the highest FIE standards by European notified bodies (EN 13567: 2002 + A1: 2007 requirement level 2).
Lay tests such as self-tests according to SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) are not comparable with the standards of stab resistance according to FIE standards and the requirements for protective equipment.
Therefore, always ensure that personal protective equipment must be tested and certified by independent notified bodies in accordance with the EU Regulation for personal protective equipment, as you can see from our product leaflets.
With our St. George suit, you receive the highest quality and safest personal protective equipment and can check the relevant independent certificates via the legally required package inserts.

scope
This garment is intended exclusively for use with safe, flexible blades intended for sport historical fencing.
The selection of the correct performance level for fencing protective equipment depends on the regulations of the respective national fencing federation, as well as the international fencing federations (e.g., FIE). In any case, we strongly recommend using only protective fencing clothing of the highest performance level (EN 13567 + A1:2007 Performance Level 2>800N, please refer to the label and the front of the accompanying leaflet).
Please refer to the chart on our website for the correct fencing trousers size. Fencing protective clothing should be chosen large enough to allow for full range of motion.
The protective zones of the garment (shown in grey) are shown in the illustration above (see image gallery).
The following items of clothing are not part of the protection zones:
- The elastic bands on the cuffs below the knee
- The suspenders
- All other holding and fastening devices such as straps, Velcro and zippers, etc.
Warnings
These fencing trousers are intended exclusively for use in competitive Olympic and historical fencing. The selection of the correct level of fencing protective equipment depends on the regulations of the respective fencing federation. In all cases, we strongly recommend using only protective equipment of the highest level (EN 13567: 2002 + A1: 2007, Level 2).
Fencing, as a combat sport involving physical contact with the fencing weapon, is inherently dangerous. The goal of protective equipment for fencers is to prevent injuries as much as possible or, in the worst case, to minimize the severity of injury, particularly from the tip of the weapon. Broken blades pose a particular threat. The circumstances of a blade breakage can lead to high tip speeds and high-energy impacts. Broken blades are known to penetrate protective clothing with potentially fatal consequences. Protective equipment for fencing cannot guarantee complete protection against injuries—especially those caused by broken blades.
Protective equipment must not be modified or tampered with by the user. In particular, seams must not be undone or other parts added or removed.
Please refer to the size chart for the correct fencing trousers size. Fencing protective clothing should be chosen large enough so that freedom of movement is not restricted. At the same time, fencing protective clothing should fit tightly enough to avoid any folds that could catch an opponent's weapon.
When putting on the fencing trousers, ensure that all fastening and closure devices (laces, buttons, zippers, Velcro fasteners, etc.) are fully and securely closed. If any fastening and/or closure devices no longer function properly, the trousers may no longer be used.

Fencing trousers are designed to be used by either right-handed or left-handed athletes (weapon-wielding arm) (see marking on the cover). Fencing clothing designed for right-handed athletes may never be used by left-handed athletes (and vice versa).
Cleaning, care and storage
The care instructions must be strictly observed. Failure to comply may result in a reduction in the protective properties. Fencing protective equipment should be checked regularly for any mechanical damage (abrasions, tears, holes, torn seams). In this case, the protective effect may be reduced, and the protective equipment must no longer be used.
The product is washable at 30°C on a delicate cycle. A mild detergent should be used. The jacket should not be spun or tumble dried, as mechanical stress can reduce its protective effect. All fasteners must be closed before washing.
Store in the original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
This protective clothing complies with the health and safety requirements of Regulation 2016/425.
