Joachim Meyer 1600
Transcription of the fencing book “Thorough description of the free knightly and noble art of fencing”
Edited and transcribed by Wolfgang Landwehr
Volume 3 of the Library of Historical Martial Arts
Joachim Meyer's fencing book appeared in two editions in 1570 and 1600, which differed only marginally.
This transcription is based on the version printed by Manger in Augsburg in 1600.
In his work, Joachim Meyer describes fighting with swords, dusacks, rapiers, daggers and polearms in detail and in an easy-to-understand manner in separate chapters, which are illustrated with 74 mostly full-page plates, each of which shows different techniques.
This transcription adheres to the original version down to the letter and also retains the layout, so that the highest possible authenticity of the original is retained despite the use of a modern font that makes it easier to read.
By completely reproducing the entire original work in the historical wording with all illustrations, this transcription is an indispensable basic work for historians, martial artists and medieval reenactors.
The transcription is supplemented by an introduction to Meyer and the history of this fencing book. A glossary with terms from Old New High German and a keyword index for quickly finding the topics you are looking for complete the publication.
