Joachim Meyer 1600

Transcription of the fencing book "Gründtliche Beschreibung der freyen Ritterlichen und Adelichen kunst des Fechtens"

Published and transcribed by Wolfgang Landwehr

Volume 3 of the Bibliothek der historischen Kampfkünste

Joachim Meyer's fencing book was published in two editions in 1570 and 1600, which only differed marginally.

This transcription is based on the version printed by Manger 1600 in Augsburg.

In his work, Joachim Meyer describes the fight with sword, dusack, rapier, dagger and staff weapons in separate chapters, which are illustrated with 74 mostly full-page plates on which different techniques are presented.

This transcription follows the original version to the letter and also retains the layout, so that despite the use of a modern typeface, which makes it easier to read, the highest possible authenticity of the original is retained.

Due to the complete reproduction of the entire original work in its historical wording with all illustrations, this transcription is an indispensable basic work for historians, martial artists and medieval re-enactors.

The transcription is supplemented by an introduction to Meyer's person and the history of this fencing book. A glossary with terms from the old New High German as well as a keyword register for quick finding of searched topics complete the publication.
